Things To Watch Out For When Taking Sleeping Pills

Over the counter sleeping pills like Ambien are very popular and effective. There are many causes of insomnia, and the most common ones seem to come from wrong and irregular sleeping patterns. Short-term sleep insomnias can result from stressful events, worries, and environmental disturbances such as noise or temperature.

Also, taking too many stimulants and too many drugs such as alcohol, caffeine, or nicotine can give you a hard time falling asleep. Sometimes these cases of insomnia can be cured by simply changing the lifestyle and sleeping time habits. But if these changes do not work, then maybe you should consider taking sleeping pills approved by the Food and Drug Administration for short-term treatment. But before you ask your doctor for sleeping pills, there are some factors you should be aware of.

One of the things to consider is sleeping pills' half life. Half-life means the length of time it takes effects to wear off from body. If it's too long, then it may affect your daytime activities. It is also important for you to know that sleeping pills are only for short-term use. There is a very high risk of becoming dependent on sleeping pills if you overdose them or use them for extended periods of time. It is safe to use them for short-term insomnia due to stressful events, h2>Slag, or change in lifestyle, but it is not recommended to use sleeping pills to treat chronic insomnia.

There are many good sleeping pills without a prescription containing diphenhydramine and doxylamine. These sleeping pills, like prescription drugs, should be used with care and directions must be followed. Side effects of taking these aids can be daytime drowsiness.

Today's Sleeping Pills Articles
Ignoring Insomnia Today Could Lead To Problems Of Anxiety Tomorrow
Chronic insomnia is an extremely common problem today suffered by many millions of people and, while an increasing number of people do look for an insomnia cure, a substantial proportion of sufferers simply choose to live with the condition and merely adjust their lifestyle accordingly. But could this be storing up problems for the future? For some considerable time now doctors have been concerned that there may be a link between chronic insomnia and both anxiety and depression, but this link has not been clearly defined and there has been a question about whether chronic insomnia leads to anxiety and depression or whether anxiety and depression leads to chronic insomnia. At last however it seems that we might be close to finding, or indeed have found, the answer. In a recent and extensive study carried out at the Haukeland University Hospital in Bergan, Norway, researchers have been studying the problem of chronic insomnia and both anxiety and depression in a group of more than 25,000 patients for a period of well over ten years and, while the picture is still not entirely clear, the evidence of a link does at last seem to be emerging. The study would appear to indicate that, in general terms, it is chronic insomnia which appears first and which over time in many cases leads to anxiety disorder. However, the same does not appear to be true in the case of depression, which is often accompanied by insomnia but does not appear to be caused by it. So just what does this mean? In its very simplest terms it means than a person who is suffering from chronic insomnia, in other words a person who suffers for any extended period of time from an ongoing problem in falling asleep, remaining asleep or waking too early in the morning, should not simply ignore the problem but should take positive steps to find a suitable insomnia cure. We all suffer from insomnia from time to time and it is quite normal to find that events in our lives, a change in our environment and a whole host of other factors can lead to insomnia. However, in most cases such insomnia is short lived and as events pass, for example, so does our insomnia. Here therefore it is persistent insomnia going on not simply for a matter of days, or even a week or two, but for several weeks and months that we need to be concerned about when we talk in terms of chronic insomnia. In addition, since the study shows that chronic insomnia can lead to anxiety disorder, people suffering from chronic insomnia should consider the possibility that they may also be suffering from anxiety disorder for which they should seek professional help from their doctor. Remember too that all of these conditions can be treated naturally and there is no need to worry about the possibility of having to take sleeping pills and other drugs for either anxiety or depression. In the vast majority of cases, and certainly if caught early enough, changes to your lifestyle and diet are often all that is necessary to have you right as rain again in no time at all.

Banish Insomnia -- Sleep Safe With Amino Acids
There is something most uncivilized about living in a civilized world. What is it? It?s hard to get good night?s sleep.

Some of this punishing sleep deprivation is voluntary. Too much to do. Too much to see. Too many responsibilities. Not enough sleep.

For many people, sleep is a desperate need. People toss and turn, but sleep does not come. Others get to sleep only to awaken later in the middle of the night. In the morning, thousands (millions?) head off to work bleary-eyed, trying to be productive. It?s a vicious cycle.

Eventually exhaustion can get bad enough that a person seeks help from their doctor, who obligingly writes a prescription for some pills. At first, they work well and the sleepless person gets some much needed relief.

However, the real nightmare is about to begin. After awhile, the sleeping pills stop working. Unfortunately, by then, the person is addicted. The doctor has been told the drugs are not addictive by the drug manufacturer. Anecdotal evidence, however, suggests drug manufacturers aren?t giving doctors the whole story. There?s big money in having a ?non-addictive? sleeping pill. As the saying goes, ?Money Talks.?

It turns out that there is another way, but not one health insurance will pay for. Because there are no large drug companies standing behind this alternative, health insurance companies don?t recognize it as a therapeutic choice.

Contrary to what doctors usually are taught both in medical schools and from drug companies, nutrition plays a large role in getting a good night?s sleep. There are a number of vitamins and minerals that support sleep. An internet search for ?insomnia vitamins? and ?insomnia minerals? provides a wealth of information about these nutritional supports.

Staying away from nicotine, caffeine and alcohol helps in getting a good night?s sleep, as does having a good diet and getting regular exercise

Amino acids are lesser known for their importance in being able to get enough sleep, but they are just as vital. L-Tryptophan, for example, is called ?essential? for a reason. People can?t live without it.

Without enough L-Tryptophan, or its easier-to-get cousin, 5-HTP (5-Hydroxy Tryptophan), human beings are not able to calm down. Sound familiar? Usually, about 100 mg of 5-HTP provides enough relaxation that sleep becomes an option for an average adult. Experimentation to discover an appropriate dosage is safe and easy.

Sleep becomes an option with enough L-Tryptophan in the brain. This is where L-Theanine, another commonly available amino acid, comes in. It?s a sleep time amplifier, providing more rest in less time. A dose of 100 mg at bed time is a good starting place.

Finally, GABA (yet another amino acid) works for some people. Most sleeping pills work on the same part of the brain that uses GABA. Unfortunately, for technical reasons, just taking GABA does not always work that well. Trying 200 mg at bed time is a good starting place. It may or may not work.

Anyone having trouble getting a good night?s sleep can leave the sleeping pills in the cabinet. Instead, trying some 5-HTP, L-Theanine and GABA is an inexpensive option. These supplements are a safe and non-addictive alternative.

Sleep Without Pills
I Can’t Sleep!
But Sleeping Pills, Sleep Drugs & Sleeping Supplements can be Dangerous
The smart solution is safe, quick & easy

30, 40, or 72 million -- depending on whom you believe -- is the number of Americans who have a sleep disorder. How do they gather these stats, and what precisely do they mean by “sleep disorder?” And who are “they,” anyway?

None of that matters! If you nod off on the job, or your social life has become drudgery or nothing seems as much fun because you are constantly tired from lack of healthy sleep, the statistics don’t matter. You need sleep!

More and more you’ve got “the lights on nobody home” curse and your enjoyment of life begins slipping into a haze. Simple things like taking your health walk become too much trouble.

Food discipline, which has never been easy -- forget about it!

Life passes you by, one day after another, they all seem pretty much the same… you are tired all the time.

What Are The Sleepless and Grouchy to Do?

So you take sleep drugs or sleep supplements… and things do change.

You have the jitters, the fresh carton of Super Extra Rich Chocolate Mint Swirl was there last evening, but it’s missing in the morning, and no one else likes it. What happened to it? Your passably sunny disposition gets a little cloudier, you’re less alert, and you become even more overstressed causing dull work days, missed pleasures, and accidents. I could go on, and so could you…

Read the list of side effects for Lunesta, Rozarem, and Ambien, to name a few. Read the sleep blogs. It’s not a pretty picture

The sleep drugs were supposed to make things better, and in some cases they did --at first, but it wasn’t long before things took a turn for the worse. But those of you who were desperate for anything that would stop the mind chatter, stop the nights of staring into the abyss, prevent the dreaded dawn -- you had to do something.

Users of Sleep Drugs Live Shorter Lives

So we ignored what the drug companies, (compelled by inadequate laws and a self confessed understaffed FDA) themselves, admitted were possible side effects of even the new class of sleep drugs, namely: all sleeping drugs have the risk of becoming habit forming, grogginess, mental impairment, difficulty in urinating, depression, malaise -- and the list goes on. What they often don't make clear is that these sleep drugs do not work long
term, can have an effect on breathing, and that users of sleep drugs live shorter lives.

But what about the All Natural Sleep Supplements?

The use of all natural sleep supplements can put you at even greater risk for more serious, even fatal consequences. At least
the pharmaceutical companies are required to get FDA approval, no matter that their system, by their own admission, is not up
to the responsibility.

The “all natural” designation for sleep supplements implies that since it’s not man made it’s certainly safe. Nothing could be
further from the truth.

Take just one example of “all natural” and the dangers of natural cures: “Popular comfrey tea contains alkaloids toxic to the liver, and animal studies suggest it is carcinogenic,” said Varro Tyler, an emeritus professor at Purdue University.
All Natural Comfrey: banned in Canada and severely restricted in Germany, but still sold in the US with downright deceptive advertising.

There are hundreds more examples.

The very serious problem in taking any natural supplements is that there’s no oversight, no collective information, and minimal disciplined study.

Who Cares? I want Sleep. I’ll try anything!

But none of that matters, because now it’s time for you to discover a way to relax deeply, and fall sleep quickly and easily at bedtime without pills of any kind.

Sleep is your birthright. And you don’t have to take drugs, supplements, study sleep books, adhere to sleep plans, attach gadgets, endure white noise or sound effects to get night after night, of blessed, healthful, wonderful, luxurious, well deserved, sleep.

I can’t Sleep! But sleeping pills can be dangerous and supplements are even more risky. And both create dependency or work only short term and have many other bad side effects. The smart solution is safe, quick and easy.
The Advantages of Taking Melatonin to Promote Sleep
Slumber is probably one of the most ached for yet elusive extravagances everyone wants to possess these days. Because a lot of us have duties that neglect the nature of time zones, our bodies succumb to the battery, and our body clocks turn awry. Thus, we find ourselves sleeping in the midst of a congregation or very aware when the whole neighborhood is quiet and walking quietly in dreamland. We usually pass ourselves to the order of sleeping pills and herbal teas. We consult doctors who do not think twice to prescribe us Prozac or Valium to relax our nerves and finally get that shut-eye we are aching for. Just so you would know, these aforementioned drugs have adverse reactions, and you have to know what might occur to you as you keep taking it. However, it is a need to go to sleep, therefore, the high cost is just neglected. It would delight you then to know that there is an all-natural supplement that may be taken without having to fret about the sleeping pill hangovers. There is a really small part of our pineal gland that has been reproduced to create an over-the-counter drug that can fix your problems regading sleep. Unlike sleeping pills, which are usually ended with splitting headaches, melatonin makes you feel very happy after rising up. Melatonin is a great sleep aid, yes. But it is in fact more than that. It also is comprised of strong antioxidants that can strengthen our immune systems. A result of this is reduced risks of acquiring Parkinson's disease, cardiovascular sicknesses, and other ailments. If you love to travel, then melatonin will definitely be in your pack of medicines. Jet lag can now be avoided if you take melatonin thirty minutes before setting foot on the plane. Actually, statistics have come to the point of concluding that melatonin can also lower the risks of cancer. No sleeping pill can give you these perks. Common sense will tell you, of course, that because natural supplements are not FDA watched, they should not be abused no matter what they claim to remedy. You have no idea how powerful melatonin can be, which is why you need to take care with it. The smallest dose can knock you out for several hours. So conclusively, always trust the opinion of your doctor before resuming on impulse. Nevertheless, a number of studies have already given word to the effectiveness of melatonin compared to sleeping pills. While both routes assure you of a long, uninterrupted sleep, surely you'd want to take the melatonin's natural and organic path. You may have the sweetest of dreams as you sleep. You can beat insomnia and sleep like a baby tonight
YOU CAN BEAT INSOMNIA AND SLEEP LIKE A BABY TO-NIGHT! By Valerie Macleod Are you struggling to get a good night’s sleep because you suffer from insomnia? Insomnia can be a chronic condition for some people. It may begin as a symptom of an illness or during a particularly stressful time in someone's life and it causes such a drastic disruption in the person’s sleep pattern that they struggle to find a way to overcome this debilitating problem. Spending years struggling to find a successful method to sleep and to overcome the effects of insomnia is a frustrating experience. Suffering from deprivation of sleep can change a person's life in many ways. Without the foundation of a steady and regular pattern of sleep, the insomniac is unable to function to the best of their ability. Very often it becomes a repetitive condition which the sufferer finds difficult to break, resulting in tiredness and irritability during the day. Traditional medicine offers many alternatives for people who have suffered from serious sleeping problems. Sleeping pills are a commonly prescribed remedy. Although they do adequately treat the insomnia, they also often have serious side-effects. One of the most serious side-effects is that they are often addictive. It becomes a trade-off for those who choose this approach. Although their insomnia is treated, they become dependent on medication and in some cases have to stay on that medication for the rest of their lives. By researching natural remedies for insomnia, the person will once again find the rest they need and do so in a way that is healthiest for their entire body. Recently a fellow insomniac of many years, who had tried various and many traditional methods to overcome the problem without success, developed a unique sleep management solution. After many months of investigation into sleep problems and much personal experimentation, a technique which is remarkably simple and quick-acting was devised without medication of any kind. This easy to follow system proved to be extremely reliable and from then on gave the previous sufferer a restful and sound sleep every night. Read the review and obtain more information all about this method.

Night Eating Syndrome and Sleep Walking
Eating while sleeping? It’s probably a disorder. Has this happened to you? You woke up one morning, and you found that there were wrappers of candy bar all over your kitchen. Incidentally, your stomach aches and you see that you had chocolate smudges all over your hands and face. Your parents or your husband tells you that you are up all night long eating, but surprisingly, you don’t recall that you did so. Your parents or your husband seemed serious telling you that you actually ate all those chocolates. Is there an inside joke? Probably not, In fact, the symptoms show that you probably have a night eating syndrome. Night eating syndrome, also known as sleep-related eating, is considered by medical doctors as a parasomnia. It is not a frequent sleepwalking type. People suffering from this disorder have experiences of recurrent eating episodes while asleep, without actually being aware that they are actually doing it. This nocturnal eating syndrome might happen most of the time that it would show significant gain in your weight. Although this disorder can affect people in all ages and sexes, the sleep-related eating affects young women more than men. What is night eating disorder? Also known as nocturnal sleep-related eating disorder or NS-RED, night eating disorder is not an eating problem strictly speaking. It is known as a sleep disorder type that enables people to eat while seemingly asleep. While sleeping, they could eat while in bed, or in some cases, roaming around the house or staying at the kitchen. The people suffering from this disorder are not conscious during NS-RED episodes. That is why night eating disorder is always related to sleepwalking. Being asleep, they do not know that they eat and cannot recall any incident of eating the night before. If at all, they can only remember in fragments. The NS-RED episode more or less occurs somewhere in a state between sleep and wakefulness. When people suffering from night eating disorder learn that they have such a problem, they feel ashamed and embarrassed. Some, even with evidence presented by his or her family members, deny that they did that. They cannot believe that they could do such a thing and cannot admit to themselves that they could not control themselves. The food consumed during the disorder periods are most likely to be high-sugar, high-fat food that people usually avoid when they’re awake. In some cases, there are those who eat bizarre food combinations, such as raw bacon partnered with mayonnaise, or hotdogs being dipped in a peanut butter. Some even eat non-food items such as soap in the same way they slice cheese. How can you get NS-RED? According to recent statistics, about three to nine people or about one to three percent of the total population are most likely to be affected by the disorder, with up to 15 percent of those who have eating disorders affected by night eating disorder. Many of those affected by the syndrome diet (or at least try to) during the day, leaving them hungry and very weak to binge eating during the night when their control to achieve weight loss gets weakened by sleep. Some people have medical histories of drug abuse, alcoholism, and other sleep disorders such as restless legs, sleep apnea, and sleep walking. They often get tired upon waking up due to fragmented sleep. Many NS-RED cases seem to run along family lines. How can you eat and unable to remember doing so? Actually, that could really happen. While research on this disorder is still not that comprehensive, there is a high probability that there are parts of the brain that are truly sleeping even though some parts stay wide awake. Also asleep are the parts that regulate your waking consciousness, so it is no wonder that you cannot remember any memories of gorging on food on the night before. Is NS-RED curable? What should you do if you have it? Thank god, treatment is available for your night eating disorder. Treatment starts with a medical interview as well as spending a night or two in a good sleep-disorders center where you brain activity can be monitored. Medication is sometimes helpful, but you should avoid taking sleeping pills as they can aggravate your sleep disorder by adding to the clumsiness and confusion upon waking up and may cause you injury as can regular use of these pills. Yes, there is treatment. It begins with a clinical interview and a night or two at a sleep-disorders center where brain activity is monitored. Sometimes medication is helpful, but sleeping pills should be avoided. They can make matters worse by increasing confusion and clumsiness that can lead to injury. Regular use of sleeping pills can also lead you to dependency. It would be better that you ask a doctor on what medication to take. Summary: Eating while sleeping? Night eating syndrome, also known as sleep-related eating, is considered by medical doctors as a parasomnia. It is known as a sleep disorder type that enables people to eat while seemingly asleep.

What Causes Snoring, is it your Lifestyle?
What if a few changes in your life could make you stop snoring! For some people snoring is the result of extravagant lifestyles, very often these people overindulge some area of their life and in return the indulgences are what cause snoring and may disturb your partner. If this is your case you may need to re-evaluate your lifestyle and make the necessary changes if you truly want to sleep peacefully. A Few Examples of What Snoring There are many causes of snoring, some are related to your lifestyle others to your physical condition. Here are just a few examples of what causes snoring: - Eating too much and not exercising enough - Drinking too much alcohol - Sleeping pills - Smoking excessively - Sleeping in improper positions On the other hand your physical condition could be the cause of your snoring. Causes like allergies and nasal stuffiness, some people even have a deformity in their nose, in this case only a doctor can diagnose and treat you. Are you eating too much? Did you know that having to much fat near your throat could be responsible for your snoring problem? If you are the type of person who is eating too much or if you are not exercising enough then your muscle tone could be too weak to keep the airways open causing snoring. Some people have a small neck and are overweight, for these this situation is bound to occur. In some cases even a few extra pounds could be the cause of their snoring. Drinking to much alcohol? Alcohol is often responsible for snoring. Having too much alcohol in your body will slow down how quickly the brain can respond. In other words, your muscles will relax making you snore at night. As you probably already know alcohol is also a depressant, so when there is too much relaxation, the oropharynx will collapse causing even more snoring. On top of that alcohol can irritate your nasal airways causing congestion; this alone can be the cause of snoring as it creates a resistance to the airways when one breathes. Do you have a good sleeping position? Maybe you have already heard that a bad sleeping position like sleeping on your back could be the reason for your snoring problem. Here are the facts: If you are sleeping in an incorrect position like your back for example, this could cause your tongue, chin and excess fat tissue beneath the chin to relax and thus squeeze your airways causing you to snore. That is why sleeping on your side is often advised for people with snoring problem. Nasal Problems This is a very common problem that causes snoring. This condition prevents a person to breathe through the nose and instead have to breathe through an open mouth. If you are suffering from this condition there are nasal sprays that you can use to help you getting rid of your problem. These nasal sprays can be used over a long period of time without any side effects. Another common method to overcome your snoring problem would be to inhale steam to help you reduce your nasal congestion.

How To Reduce Snoring Naturally
When the airflow through your breathing passage becomes irregular due to obstruction, the soft palate starts flapping. This produces the snoring sound. Snoring can be defined as the sound made through an open mouth due to vibration of the soft palate and uvula. Snoring occurs during sleep, and the intensity of the sound may vary from person to person.

The main reason of snoring is obstruction of the breathing passage. Fat accumulated around the throat, incorrect positioning of the jaws, closing of jaws during sleep, allergies, and the tongue collapsing back into the throat can be the source of various breathing passage blockages that result in snoring.

Snoring is a very common phenomenon among men as well as women and the ?funniest? part associated with snoring is that most snorers? do not hear their own snoring. Snoring can be a social problem as well as medically serious issue. It can cause disturbance in your partners sleep and it definitely disturbs the snorers sleep patterns. If an individual is a victim of serious snoring then it might lead to some serious health hazards including sleep apnea.

Many people ask if snoring can be cured or not? Heavy snorers should definitely seek medical help, even though they may need several treatments and examinations. These examinations determine the kind of treatment required. Diagnosis will discover whether the snoring is due to allergies, infections, and tonsils or as a result of being overweight or lifestyle factors. Heavy snorers have the option of choosing surgery as a way to minimize or eliminate their snoring.

There are people whose snoring is mild their snoring can be managed through maintaining a healthy and athletic lifestyle. If needed, mild snorers should consider loosing excess weight, avoid tranquilizers and sleeping pills, cut down on alcohol intake, adopt a regular sleeping pattern, and avoid sleeping on their backs.

There are some effective ways to reduce snoring. If the throat, the jaw muscles, and the tongue are exercised regularly, the breathing passage will become broader and will not become blocked during sleep. If you make it a habit to exercise these areas, you can reduce your snoring naturally. Yoga and singing are also natural methods to reduce snoring.
